1.) Withdrawals
-You
will have a lot of withdrawal moments after your big chop, sad to say you might
just shed a few tears (probably not, but I did). Cutting off your hair, is never
easy. One of the hardest experiences to go through. You know that feeling you
get when you have to get rid of your favorite pair of shoes, the ones that you
loved dearly but were so dirty and old. Well that is the same feeling you will
have once you cut your hair. Although it will eventually feel good, you will
feel the pain.
2.)
Rock it , BABY
- Of
course it’s going to look different, and you might not like it at first. But
work with it, try some cool headband accessories (FYI: flowers look great on
TWA’s). You have to own it, because honestly there is nothing sexier than a
girl who is confident with her looks. Your hair does not define you, rather you
have some hair or no hair, do not think for one second you are not beautiful.
Your hair is probably the happiest it has ever been, so why not be happy too?
3.)
Patience is the KEY
- Going
natural rather you do the big chop or not, is when you truly learn to have
patience. No matter what method, or products you use your hair will not grow overnight.
Just continue to maintain, and care for your hair and I promise you it will
grow long and beautiful.
4.) MOISTURIZE!!!!!!!
I have
watched many YouTube videos as well as read many blogs/books about going
natural. And I promise you, if I received a dollar for every time I heard
someone say “make sure you moisturize” I would be rich (I am seriously not
kidding). But honestly, they are right. When going natural your hair becomes
super dry. So dry, it will feel like you are scrapping a cardboard when you
touch it. So if there is one tip you need to take from reading this it will be
this one. MAKE SURE YOU MOISTURIZE :)
5.) Research
Natural hair needs a lot of attention. You know those simple wash and go’s you did when you had a perm/relaxer ? Well it doesn’t get that simple anymore. The best way to know how to care for your hair, you have to do your research (Hint: that’s the reason why you are here). Any products, methods, or just concerns about what to do. You can always find them on natural hair blogs, books, or even YouTube. Please keep in mind, all hair types are not the same. Your hair is different than others, so what might work for you, probably will not work for someone else.
